I am in a Yahoo league, and I am thinking about adding/dropping players, but I don't know what those terms mean (still learning the ropes).

If a player is a free agent you can pick him up at any time. If he is on waivers then you can put in a claim for him. If you go to your home page it will tell you what your waiver priority is. Let's say you are at 5. That means you will get the player if the teams with waivers 1-4 do not try to pick him up.

I am the Commish - Can I select league settings so that players go on waivers Sun - Wed, and then all become free agents on Wed/Thurs? This allows everyone time to review their weekend performance and fairly choose among available players. Then on Wed/Thurs - go for it. Help please.

In Yahoo leagues, when you click on Players you can see all the available free agents that are in the free agent pool. You can add any player to your roster immediately if the player you are intetested in has no W(date) behind its name.
