The cateories role and status were made popular by the sociologist and intellectual Max Weber. These terms are very related with social stratification. The status people accquire are frequently related with their social origins, although this is not always this way. Status refers to a position of respect a certain person has in the eyes of the rest of society, within his social class or out of it. For example, a rich business man is respected and known among his peers, and by the means of clothes, cars, and other social demonstrations of wealth, he is able to impose his status.
