Given that the stingray is normally incredibly placid, and only uses its tail as a defensive measure (and given Steve Irwin's history of provoking animals), it seems incredible that stupid people are killing the stingray as if it's somehow to blame (or indeed acted with intent). Only 17 people have been killed in history by a stingray, Steve Irwin was the third in Australia. I'm not sure if I'd go as far as Germaine Greer and say that "the animal kingdom has had it's revenge on Steve Irwin," but whoever is now taking revenge on stingrays needs to be caught and prevented from doing any more damage to these innocent and incredibly beautiful creatures.

I seriously doubt they are killing the stingray. That is just one of many rumours to be started since his death.
As for it being Steve's fault, that is bs too. Are you saying if you get attacked by a shark it's your fault and not the shark's natural predatory nature???

Are they really planning to put the stingray to death? I sure hope not, that would be outrageous! I am quite sure that Steven Irwin would not have wanted that and I believe to do so would be to dishonor the memory of a mighty man!

yes!i agree they dont have the right to kill the stingray that killed the man, people fail to understand that everything in this earth has a defensive mechanism,it would be ridiculous if the maritime authority allows them to hunt down the sting ray,how would a reasonable person feel if he was put inbetween the devil and the deep sea?futhermore the man who died fought so hard to preserve the marine environment,so lets stop and think twice

Yes, I heard that and believe it. Queensland is full of rednecks who love to kill things - this gives them justification in their pea brains. They are cutting the poor rays tails off as well. These people should be culled.
I'd give the best answer points to the hiddenbear above. Said what I would say very eloquently. I'd just add that I agree with Germaine Greer though.

That's horrible if that's the case- he was young and it was tragic, but he was in a natural environment with natural, primal responses from something that cannot rationalize that they are killing the Crocodile Hunter. I am sure he wouldn't want the sting ray killed...

yes it's true, just heard it on the news, it's disgusting and i'm certain steve irwin would have been very very disappointed and angry. Stingrays are being found mutilated, stabbed, killed, in supposed revenge attacks. Humans are pathetic sometimes.
