I have 2 desktop PC's connected via broadband through a Belkin wired router/gateway & I want to add my wireless laptop to the newtork. I have just purchased a Linksys wireless G broadband router with speed booster.
Is it really as simple as unplugging everything from the Belkin wired router and plugging everything into the Linksys wireless router? and is there a screenshot I can take of the present settings for the wired router? (I assume these settings can then go into the wirless router setttings).
At present I can piggyback other insecure wirless connections through my laptop but cannot connect to my network, so this change to Linksys that deals with wired and wireless connections, aparently, seems the best thing to do.
Any helpful advice received with many thanks.

Actually, yes. And, try out how fast it all is when you run http://pclinuxos.com

Almost that simple. Take out the old router and put in the new one. Then run the CD that come with the new router from one of the desktops. That should set up the new router and activate the wireless feature. After that, go to the control panel of the laptop and run the Wireless network wizard and you should be all set.

Devices that you are hard connecting into the router will work just fine, connect those and they should work immediately. The configuration that you will need to go through will be for wireless settings.

It's not horribly difficult or complicated. You will be asked to pick a SSID for your network, the type of encryption (I reccomend WPA or WPA2), and a key to access that network.

Once your router is set up, on your laptop, double-click on the wireless connections on the taskbar, and it will give you a list of networks to connect to, find the SSID for your network, double click, and it will ask for the keypass twice (use the one that you input into the router, or the one it gave you). Then it should work.

The best thing to do is to just follow the directions out of the box. Those always seem to work best.

I have done same in the past. My advice quick and simple is, yes plug everything into the Linksys device you have.

Have each machine join the same workgroup. Once this is done you can share devices and files and set policies for your network.
Besure that each computer's firewall allows sharing, this is a slight thing that you can miss and can cause issues.

Lastly definitely set up WEP security via the Router's internal login page.

it is most likely that your linksys will need to be configured with your adsl details as it 'logs on' for you.

Once you have done this anything connected via ethernet should just literally be 'plug in and its online' with no additional config required (you may need to take network settings out of IE and just leave it as the default 'dont dial a connection connect through lan'.

The only configuration will be required on the wireless end to set up wep (or preferably WPA) to connect the laptop but the phrasing of your question suggest you got da skillz for that already :)
