I'm going through a messy divorce after being in a controlling relationship and I've booked for me and my two children to go on holiday to Florida, however, my husband has threatened to cancel the passports so that the children can't go!

Why would he want to ruin the children's chance of going to DIsney World, and is there anything I can do to stop him from doing it?

It's not aimed at hurting the children - it's aimed at hurting you. It sounds like he's selfish and self-centered. Probably why you're not together any more. I don't think there's any way he can cancel a passport once it's issued unless he reports it as being lost or stolen. Check with your passport office to see what steps you can take to ensure that this doesn't happen.

He's threatening to cancel the passports because he's angry with you. You will need to ask your lawyer if you can take the kids to Florida on vacation. The children should not have to pay the price of being used as collateral in a divorce no matter how messy it may be.

Why would your ex-husband-to-be ruin a trip for you and your children?? You already said it, he's a controlling person.

Can you stop him... yes! Alert the authorities to the situation (don't tell him you are doing this) and let them know that you have custody of the children, the details of the vacation (so you don't get accused of kidnapping), and follow through on your plans.

If this man is that controlling, you need to have others on your side to help. I would turn to your parents, the authorities, etc.

Good luck and I hope the trip is a great time!!

Where do you live? If you live in the US you don't need a passport. If in another country, you should abide by the governing laws of that country. The way to answer this is to go to a courthouse and see what they say. Good luck

if you live in the usa you dont need a passport to go to florida. you dont need his permission to go as long as you have the kids back in time for his time to spend with them.

as long as you retain the passports and they are current, he cant cancel them. you may remind him that it is unfair to use the children as pawns to hurt you and that they will grow to hate him for it. they are not as ignorant about what he is doing as he might think

he just wants to make EVERYTHING difficult for you... think of the waste of money for the tickets that you wouldn't be able to get a refund on...

it is all part of his mind games and controlling personality...
