I have bad face skin, such as blackheads and other sorts of acne, also I have dry skin from my clensing products so when I apply my councealer it tends to leave behind flakyness where my dry spots/acne is. I've applied lotions before applying my make up but they all cause me to break out, or don't seem to help. What are some good clensing products concealers, and/or lotions for these problems? Also, feel free to give me any other make up tips! :) Fair skin - Green eyes - Auburn hair.

It may be that the products you are using are too harsh and are making your skin worse as a result - it does sound as though you are suffering. It depends upon your age and skin type as these make a lot of difference - check out what types of skin other members of your family have and it will give you a good indication. If you feel that your problems are beyond "normal" then I would recommend you see your doctor so that they can refer you to a specialist. Meantime there are things that you can do for your skin, which are mild and friendly. Good hygiene is a must so always ensure that your face cloths (use a new one daily), sponges, brushes etc are scrupulously clean and wash your hands well before applying makeup or cleansing.

Have a good cleansing routine. Then I'd recommend making a paste of ground oats and almonds with either cider vinegar or water and using this as a cleanser - rub carefully into the skin and then remove with a clean facial cloth. This will remove dead skin cells which block up pores. Once a week you could have a facial sauna: best herbs are rosemary, mint or lavender. Roughly cut them up and put them into a bowl. Pour on boiling/hot water and then put your face over it for a few minutes. Afterwards you can use a light toner or distilled water to remove the grime that emerges. One good thing about these treatments are that they are really cheap and effective - I use them myself.

Don't be tempted to pick at spots. The jury seems to be out as to whether squeezing spots should be encouraged. If you must then ensure your hands and any tools you use are clean.

To dry out spots, a dab of lavender essential oil or a salicylic acid stick (Clinique do one) are really good.

As for makeup. Use a light moisturiser and conceal any blemishes with a yellow concealer stick (Benefit do an excellent one that I use) dab the concealer on. Then use a foundation - not too thick or creamy (I'd suggest going to a store and trying several as several companies e.g. MAC do different versions for different skin types including light diffusing ones which help hide spots). With the foundation, try to dab it on and make it thicker only where the blemishes are, blend in other areas carefully with a thin application. The use a loose powder to set everything.

Finally, I too had pretty greasy skin when I was young. In my experience an oily skin stays far more youthfull looking as you get older so there is a bright side!

wow - i have the exact same complexion. fair skin, green eyes, red hair. go figure ;-)

You should give both Bare Minerals AND ProActive a try - I use both.

The best products are the Bare Minerals Foundation OR Bare Minerals Mineral Veil. It's a tie.

It's expenisve ($25) but they work MIRACLES. I love the foundation because its so light and looks like you are wearing nothing, but covers up my redness and acne like it was never there. If I wear nothing else, its that...and a little goes a long way, so its not like you dont get the best bang for you buck.

The mineral veil, which is the same price, basically makes your face look poreless and flawless. It's a translucent powder that has JUST minerals in it. You can even put it on to sleep in, and it'll make your skin look better. I've been using the stuff for months, and people say that my skin looks 100% clearer. Many of them didn't even know what I was doing to look different, just that I looked amazing. It was me, only better.

ProActive is amazing, too. It works wonders with acne, and keeps my skin moisturized and clear. I've been using it since I was 11 (so almost 6 years), and I don't think I could go more then a week without it. I like to mix a little bit of the lotion with my SPF moisturzer from Bare Minerals.

As for make-up colors...I use a pale purple shimmer (princess from bareminerals) all over my eye, then a darker purple (violet sky) in the crease, with a pale sageish color (idlyic) on the corners to make the green in my eyes pop. It's a well-known fact that purples bring out green eyes, so deffintly do that. I use a brown eyeliner (coffee bean from bareminerals) smudged along the outeredges on both my bottom and top lids, and a brown mascara, since black looks too harsh. I use the Glee or Romance blush from BM (they are pinky/mauve tones - you look like you're glowing from happiness). And for my lips, I use a Revlon Lip Gloss (rose). Its a pinkish tone, and compliments my hair nicely.

Hope I helped!

PS - this may not be something you'll able to do, but going on Birth Control pills helps acne allot too, espescially ortho-try-cyclen-lo. Allot of mothers are picky about that sort of thing, but if you can do it, give it a try. I'm on it, and that has helped maintain my skin. Also, an antibiotic from your doctor might help - he might put you on them for 3 weeks, and that should clear up your skin for awhile (but it wont help long-term, sadly...a couple months at most). Also, last but not least, an asprin a day. Since acne is an anti-inflammtory problem (the redness and swelling in pimples), the asprin helps makes it clear up after a couple days (nifty, huh?). I'd check with your doctor first, and wouldn't take it while you are on your period. It might cause you to bleed longer.
Good luck!

I suggest Proactiv and estee lauder's deep thermal micro-D cleanser (twice a week) with monthly facials. Make sure to cleanse your face 3 times daily to remove dirt accumulated over the day. Each time repeat routine of cleansing, toning and moisturizing.

Stop using makeup especially foundation until your acne has cleared up as it is probably clogging your pores and not allowing acne to heal even if u're treating it.

Eat right - stop all oily foods, increase vegetable and fruit intake, take vitamin C (1000mg a day), vit E (not more than 400IU/day), zinc tablets

Sleep right - lack of sleep results in stress which affects skin, espcially if u have sensitive skin

Water - Drink at least 1.5 - 2 L a day

Exercise - aerobics, swimming, yoga all great stress relievers and increases endorphines which make your skin glow!

Tip : if u want to cover up scars, use a base on affected area then use concealers which don't clog pores. I use M.A.C base and concealer. Use a good makeup remover solution to remove prior to washing face. Loose powder over your moisturizer helps to reduce appearance of oily skin.

You might need a ONE antibiotic therapy, like Clindamycin (Cleocin 75 mg) twice a day for 10 days. It should clear acne up then maintain with above procedures.Do not use steroids as there're many side effect.

Good luck.

Check into bioelements. Someone who specializes in bioelements will do a complete skin analysis on you and then concoct the perfect balancing act for your skin. This will clear of acne, reduce pores and blackheads and not leave your skin dry and flaking. It will also even out your skin tone and reduce red spots. Bioelements also offers makeup that is suited to your skin the same way.

You don't need to buy new make-up. You do however have to do battle with acne and making your skin smooth. A long as your skin is in great shape any make-up will look great on it.

Deal with your skin first. When my acne was bad it was only the Obagi Nuderm line that turned my skin from gross to perfect. I mean no pores, soft, even texture, limited to no shine even without foundation and powder. I have the cleansing gel, toner, clear lotion, exfoderm, blender and tretinoin.1%.
You will turn red for about 3 weeks then peel like crazy but when your new skin emerges in 60 to 90 days... WOW! It's like you photoshopped and airbrushed yourself in living color. Vogue cover perfect skin.

It's expensive but remember you don't need to buy new make-up so alot your budget for that to Obagi anyway. They have a website in case you want to check.

you have to try to clear up your skin first. Covering up would just make things worse. See if your dermatologist could help. Bobby Brown make up line has the most natural tones for fondation and concealer. They are at Holt Renfrew. It's worth the money.
