Phillip K. Dick is gaining popularity. All time favorites would be Asimov followed by George Lucas for Star Wars , Star Trek etc..
Anyway that is my take.

Use the following link for a more scinetific analysis on the subject and ratings.

Bil, the Galactic Hero, by Harry Harrison is my favorite sci-fi book. The Star Wars movies are the best movies. Doctor Who was and is the best TV show in the sci-fi genre.

Best Sci-Fi? I'd have to say Star Wars. The movies. But it's closely rivaled by The Neverending Story. Remember that? The luck dragon and all? I think that falls more into the "fantasy" category than the sci-fi. But I still had to mention it. :)

I've been reading science fiction my whole life and my favorite story is a fairly recent one, The Matrix trilogy. There is a level of silliness with that whole "purpose" garbage but it's still an amazing concept and gets my vote as the best.

Dune...that's what George Lucas stole for his Star Wars saga.

George Lucas...the man puts a lot of thought into his work (even that twisted crush Luke had on his sister...EWW!)
