I have to cut cyclinders at work to fit around columns in a house. They are pretty tall, i need to cut them in half vertically. How do i find the center?

I've had good luck making a V block out of 1" stock the length of the cylider and laying the cylinders in it. Make a mark on both ends of the cylider where it meets the apex of the V block and connect the marks with a chalk line and then cut

Take a ruler and put one end along the edge. Move the other end around on the opposite side - whatever opposing point is the farthest away is exactly opposite the first, and a cut along that line would be exactly half.

first, determine circumference of cylinder. Use a seamstress measure tape for this. Take the measurement and divide by pi (3.141527)...this gives you and accurate diameter measurement, then divide by 2. This gives exact radius, or center point.

maybe one of them things u get in a compass set maybe its called a compass cant rememebr
