I first remember seeing this back in the early 90's, it was on channel 4 and was about a boy named Patrick who played on a computer and was invited to be on a game show called Finder's Keepers. He had to be at the same television set at certain times so they could bring him through the barrier to the other side. He had to find items that belonged to people and bring them back with him. The series was based on 2 books written by Emily Rodda. Does anyone else remember this and know whether it is available on DVD or video?

yes there is. i watched both movies 6-7 years ago. its available on video, dont kno about dvd. most probably.

Finders keepers with Richard Stilgoe. I know that isn't the answer to your question but you have just made me think of a game show from my childhood.
