What if I had just found out that a fifth grade school teacher in my community who is 30 years old had a child with a 21 year old and now wants the 21 year old to sign away his parental rights because she does not want her job or family to find out the father is only 21? My moral issue is: what kind of woman is this to be teaching our fifth grade students. Should the school board know about this?

Great answers!!!! I wanted to see a first reaction....now what if I said I know the woman personally, she was doing cocaine with the father the night they conceived the child, the father has been trying to get rights to his child and pays child support and she repeatedly asks him to "walk away" and leave her and "her" baby alone.?

Nope I dont think they need to know about it - the man who fathered her child is over the age of consent and its her personal life he isnt a child is he ? Teachers are normal people away from the job they do but now with the pressures of parents thinking they live like Nuns its like shes now being pressured into changing her childs future and shutting her father out - if hes still around then thats not fair that she should be thinking of doing something like this - if hes not and doesnt want to know his child then its a different story - so then is she frowned upon for being a single Mum ? what difference does it make as long as shes professional and good in the classroom with the children - surely thats what matters not what happens when she leaves for the day ? Ok so maybe she made a mistake hence what you said about not wanting her family to know either - shes paid the price for this mistake and is carrying on with her career which will be to support her child which is going to be difficult enough if people keep talking about her she hasnt done anything wrong just made a mistake getting involved with someone she probably thought a lot of at the time.

Personally I think you need to butt out. There are not that many good teachers out there, in fact we are short on educators period. This woman's only 'crime' is having a relationship with an adult who is 9 years younger than her, and feels the need to hide this information because judgmental people like you would seek to jeopardize her career if they found out.
You ask what kind of person this woman is, clearly one who cares about her career and is willing to make tough decisions to keep it.
From a moral stand point you need to stop judging other people, stop prying into other people's personal lives that have nothing to do with you, and stop being such a witch so quick to try and end someones career.
This would be an entirely different story if this woman had become pregnant with a child, perhaps a student, or you found out they were doing drugs. But this is 2006. We allow married women to teach, we allow single parents to teach. People like you are hurting society, not helping it. I hope you can learn to mind your own business.

Everybody makes mistakes and having a baby with a 21 year old is legal. It happens more often than you'd expect. Anyway, is she allowing her private life to influence what she teaches or the way that she teaches? And also she didn't get pregnant on her own.

The school of board should know about this because what she is doing is morally unright and as a teacher, she is a role model to the students, therefore she should set a good example to the students. Thus the school board should know about it. If she had the courage to love someone, she should have the the courage to face the consequences.

what she is doing is wrong, what she did is wrong, and the school board should know because if she was smart she would not worry about that everyone else think unless the 21 is an ex student of her.

Yes it should know about this only-------if the boy was her student when she had his child. If she is not going around with students but is doing her job well them what business of yours is it that she has a lover younger than herself.

Aren't they both consenting adults???
Why is this any of your concern? Butt out.
Your reaction is exactly why she didn't want people to find out about it.
Added:
What a bunch of liberal crap....
You ask a question, leaving out key information to get a reaction then add information to support your position later.....
What if I said that you're an idiot.....
