when we were young, in kindergarten, we were taught that 'morning' is when the sun is up before noon... and afternoon is literally after noon time, 'evening and night' is when the moon is up....

Well, I don't think you were taught that "night is when the moon is up." Perhaps "the moon is only visible at night," which is also not strictly true. But anyway.

The days divide at Midnight (the witching hour). At midnight it is a new day, because that's how we record it. So this leaves us with two different uses of the term "day." One for the traditional stuff, which is from dawn to dark, and one for the time-keeping, record-keeping world of business and commerce.

the sun or the moon has nothing to do when we greet good morning or good evening. just think of it that sometimes, the moon
doesn't appear during night time but we still greet good evening.

i hope that answers your question and by the way, who was your teacher in kindergarten? i love to give her a little spank! hehehe..

Who are you talking to at 1 am that would need to be greeted? LOL...In my humble opinion, I would consider anything after like 4 am or later truly the morning. It's typically the time most people start their days..

Anytime you can open your eyes and greet the day, if it is before noon, it is a good morning.

I've never greeted anyone "good morning" at 1 am.

Because it is morning. The sun has nothing to do with it.
