Oh candy even though terrorism in various parts of the world has been on for decades, (like India has been fighting the guerrilla war in Kashmir for the past 50 years), the gravity of the situation realized upon the world suddenly on 9/11. USA , the most powerful country on this planet, got hit by a couple of fanatics, in a way that had never imagined, it became clear to people that Islamic terrorism is real and that it is growing every day, like a malignant tumor, suddenly people everywhere in the worls were frightened, these are not an enemy you can fight, they dont fight face to face, they are experts in sneak attacks.
There was an increase in racist attacks on cloured people specially those who look south asian, and muslims, it in a way alienated people and destroyed the sense of security that people in the west had.War on Afghanistan soon followed, and the Taliban regime was thrown over and replaced by a democratic government, even though situation there is far from peaceful, things are improving, Iraq was also attacked for the same reason, although different theories have been given regarding why exactly Iraq was attacked, in my opinion it was because the Bush administration feared that if the WMAs that Iraq was developing fell inot the hands of these terrorists, the results would probably be more horrigying than 9/11, another reason was that probably they though that Saddam and osama having a common enemy in the form of USA might have gotten together, also since the middle east is like the breeding ground of thes terrorists they wanted a foothold there
Within 5 years of 9/11, there has been "democratization" of two countries, the world will never be the same again, the way it was

The effect of 9/11 on the world is that many laws have been passed in every country.
These laws reduce everybody's freedom, but people don't seem to mind because they think they are safer.
However it appears that no-one is safer.
So everybody has lost some freedom and gained nothing.
Another thing that has happened is that there has been lots of evidence discovered, which says the government might be lying about what happened. We know that they lied about the WMDs (weapons of mass destruction) in Iraq. They said Saddam Hussein had WMDs, but now we know he didn't have any. So we know that the government does lie sometimes. This makes the rest of the world trust the American government less.
Also because 9/11 was used as an excuse to invade Afghanistan and Iraq, and most people don't like war, now many people around the world don't like America, because they think Americans do like war.

well obviously it affected the families of the deceased. nothing really much except that it has spurred a huge hype of the term terrorism. (b4 9/11 i didnt even no what it meant) correct me if i am wrong but every day since that day(every single day) you hear of terrorism on the news; cnn, abc, sky news. george bush comments on it everyday but yet is there progress? well over here in africa we have nothing of such nature and only hypocrites worry about it, m y belief is that elsewhere, in other continents, it is the same. truthfully only those who want to be allies of the us talk about 9/11

In Australia all of our Airport security as been majorly upgraded. Even on National trips we have to be booked in at least 1/2 prior to the flight for extra bag searches.

Emotionally i don't think I have every seen anything so horrifying happened late at night here, even the next morning people were glued to TVs.

By making people realise that we are vulnerable and although we have forces - e.g the army etc.. they still can be infiltrated and defeated
It helped people pull together in a time of crisis - donating things, sending wishes of hope and supposrt to those who needed it
Made everyone realise that there are bad people in the world, and they must be defeated and overcome!!!

candy dear , i tell you , actually terrorsim is the result of direct or indirect policies of USA which has tasted it on 9/11. Actullay one only feel the pain when it pinches us. I think USA has been the root of terrorsim in the world . The only change is that USA now atleast feel the heat . I am an Indian and we are combating USA sponsored direct or indirect terrorism for years . So atleast you people have come to know about the terror. It was named as freedom movement if it happened in other countries , now it has happened to USA it is called terrorism. I am soory to say that its too late for the people of USA to understand that terrorist can not be friend for anyone. Even now USa is not openly opposing terrorist countries like Pakistan , which is hub of terror in the world today.
