It is not always possible to have your tongue pierced. Make sure that if you do decide to get it done that the piercer checks it properly, by drying your tongue 1st then checking underneath for viens......if you have 2 either side of the middle, with no connecting viens then it should be ok. But if you have one vien down the middle or the 2 viens either side are close together then it should not be done. I am a tattooist and body piercer and the tongue is the most dangerous piercing you can get. If its done wrong it only takes 4 hours for you to bleed to death! Don't let me put you off, but usually only 1 in 4 people who come to my studio can actually have this piercing.
I would go for the tattoo if at all in doubt.....it's a lot less risky.
Good luck with whatever you decide, and if you go for the piercing just make sure you go to reputable piercer and that they check your tongue thoroughly.

if you dont know neither it should be something that is obvious to you. especially a tattoo don't do it on a whim or you will regret it.

getting your tongue pierced is pretty lame now and i cant stand talking to people with them. why not be different and not get any body mods?

I have a tattoo that I have had for 11 years I would like more but haven't beenable to commit to anything yet. Ive been searching for the past 5 years for something special that suits me and means something.

if you get a tattoo make sure you do the same. dont get one of those stupid ones out of a book at the parlor. You will probably feel stupid when you are 80 if you have a unicorn on your arm or a star with a rainbow on your right breast.

think about it hard its your body for the next how ever many years do you want to look at it and think oh someone on yahoo answers said I should go with a tattoo over a tongue ring now look at this mess i have on my arm.

Having one myself, I've always liked tattoos. Then again, it depends on what you get. A tasteful or beautiful tattoo in a strategic position is always more attractive than... say... going out and having tiger stripes permanently tattooed on your face. :)

Never got into the whole piercing thing (tongue or belly). I can't see how it would be sanitary, nor do I find it attractive.

My advice, go for the tattoo.

Tattoo if you wanna stand out like crazy, pierced tongue if you want something daring and different but are not sure whether you would regret the decision or not... since piercings are not really permanent.

The tattoo would be less of a pain in the a*ss to take care of. And wouldn't take as long to heal as the piercing. On the other hand, you can get rid of a piercing but not a tattoo.

Hi,
I have both and won't advice either or against either but....
before having your tongue pierced there are a couple of things to consider.

My daughter had hers done and immediately she got tonsilitis.
She got antibiotics for them and when she went to the doctors the doctor advised her to remove it because there is a chance of developing tongue cancer 20 years down the line, and continous throat infections otherwise.

My daughter did not want her piercing removed and chose to keep it.
She has had severe tonsilitis three times since.
The last time, the past few days, she has finally taken notice and removed the piercing.

It appears to me (I study a lot) that her body simply rejected the piercing and tonsilitis is the sign of this.
She had not got it often before hand but since the piercing three times.

If you do get the piercing, please consider what the doctor told me-cancer 20 years later-and if continously get throat infections or tonsilitis consider the thought of your body rejecting the piercing, therefore remove for the sake of your future health.

God Bless You! xxx

What makes me believe the tonsilitis is a sign of the body rejecting is;
Another of my daughters, and myself also have our tongues pierced yet never got one infection.

Our bodies did not reject the piercing

if this is your first of either, I would suggest the piercing. That way if it's something you decide you don't like, you can always take it out, and no one will know the difference, but a tattoo is totally hott too, just make sure it's something that means something to you. Not just a fad, cause that **** is not coming off with soap and water.

If you want something permanent go for the tattoo. I have one and love it! If you aren't sure a piercing is a good place to start.
