Not all sharks are huge massive creatures. They vary in sizes. The two largest species, the whale and the basking shark are actually harmless to people. They feed on plankton and small fish. Swimmers and divers have been known to swim with whale sharks. They are gentle creatures.

Now far as the largest predatory fish, the great white shark, it is definitely not a harmless fish. Now studies have been shown that great whites don't actually eat people. Attacks on surfers are mistaken identity. Surfers are mistaken for the seals or sea lions on which great white prey on. And sharks may attack people in murky water where they cannot distinguished a swimmer from natural prey. And great whites, after a single bite will leave the swimmer or surfer alone, because either human flesh taste bad or we don't have enough fat to sustain it, like a seal or sea lion.

It's best that people needs to be educated about sharks. They are not the man-eating killing machine we once thought they were. Hollywood isn't exactly a great tool for educating people about wildife. They are just doing what comes naturally and people are NOT their natural prey. They are many incidences where people have swim with sharks, including great whites, and there have been no unprovoked attacks. When you are going to the beach, use common sense. Don't go into the water with an open wound. Swim in a group and make sure that the beach has a lifeguard. And if there is a sighting of a shark, do not go into the water. Would you go into the woods, when you know that there is a grizzly bear or a cougar lurking around.

And no the only animals that kills people on purpose is other human beings. Animals don't have the capacity to know what's right or wrong. Human being does.

Sharks have been on this earth for millions of years. They like any other predators, such as tigers and eagles, serve a purpose.

Sharks act instinctively. They do not plan their attacks, even on natural prey, much less humans. A shark probably can't distinguish a human swimmer or surfer from a seal. Sharks are incapable of attacking with any other purpose than eating prey or defending their territory. Shark attacks on humans are still quite rare (when you consider how many people go into the water and how many sharks are swimming around out there).

no sharks no not like the taste or smell of human meat, nearly all shark attacks happen when a shark mistakes you for a seal, the rest happen when divers get to close and the shark attacks in defence (this is usually a quick bite and then the shark runs off)

Not always they don't like the taste of humans they mainly eat sea lions comparing people to seals towards sharks is like comparing vegitables to steak were full of vitamins and other stuff that they find unpleasant they kill you if they mistaken you for seal swimming above but if you drop blood or bleed and they get the scent they show no mercy

Sharks kill to eat, and kill specific sea creatures by choice.

The majority of attacks on humans are on surfers as when they are on their boards they look like seals to sharks.

The main reason for "rogue" sharks attacking humans is that they are injured or ill and cannot catch their usual prey.

It is true that sometimes sharks attack people, but more people die from lightning, snakebites, or bee or wasp stings, not even to include car accidents. Nobody, though, thinks that we have to forbid cars. People kill sharks because of hate, to protect the beaches, or because they think it is a nice sport.

Actually people kill 4.5 million sharks in one year. It would be the same if the sharks would kill half of the people who are living in Michigan in one year. So the population of sharks is decreased worldwide. In the last 10 years some countries have tried to protect sharks. Now there is a limited number of sharks that we are allowed to kill. Even though they started to protect sharks, many of them are still endangered today.

Actually Human blood is alien to them, that is why they usually take one bite. Most of the time sharks attack surfers, because they look like sea turtles from the bottom.

Most shark attacks occur because of blood, flailing, but most of the time it is bnecause of mistaken identity.

Mistaken identity.
The shark thought that swimming thing was a seal of something. Then goes "spit, yuck! I thought that was something else. I don't want to eat that. Don't eat that! You'll probably get sick if you eat that!"
