I would recommend the national football museum. It's next to Preston North End's ground and well worth a visit. Admission is free (although you can make a donation if you like) and it contains an emormous amount of pictures and memorabilia.

I think there is a book on general sale on football grounds, which shows all grounds, old and new. Forgot the title, sorry.
