How does the society treat LGBTs? Has it changed in modern times? Why or why not?

As a gay senior, I find a tremendous improvement during my lifetime, in the level of acceptance by the general population. However certain religious fanatics and bigots still insist we are going straight to hell when we die. In the same breath they state how they love us (as they love all sinners???). To them I repeat my favorite quote.

"I would rather be hated for something I am, than be loved for something I'm not."

My partner and I will be celebrating our 27th anniversary this New Year and find we have reached that time in our lives where we have the love, acceptance and respect of our families, straight friends and neighbors. What more can we expect?

Christianity has recently once more declared war on gays via the Pope and the Anglican Archbishop...they are fascists who wish to discriminate and defame gays and use scripture very creatively to back up their prejudices.

Religion is the problem not the answer, all those religions that spring from the middle-east... Judaism, Christianity and Islam are all intrinsically homophobic and basically their books are like Hitlers Mein Kampf as far as homosexuals are concerned...these religious people have been brainwashed to defame homosexuals at every opportunity.

The rest of sane soceity and especially younger people are realising that homosexuality is a normal human variation and totally acceptable.

Better than it did 20 years ago but still a lot of hate out there. Religion is the largest contributor to that hate, be it from the Pope or G.W.Bush, it's all the same. But, we persevere, we fight, we no longer run and hide, that's what gets them the most angry, that we aren't afraid anymore, they just hate us that much more.

Blue Flys have nothing against LGBT's, but unfortunately society shuns us both.

as most people with common sense have become more accepting, the right-wing homophobes become increasingly nastier. it doesn't help when our "president" is one of them! it's shameful that our very own president keeps pushing to add legalized discrimination to our constitution. he's only drummed more of the homophobes out of the closet. and my state, MO, was shamefully the 1st state to add such discrimination to the state constitution...despite the fact that there are already laws on the books that prevent us from getting married.
register to vote, people....vote these haters out of office!
