Whenever driftwood from the sea shores used as fuel for campfires, it is often observed that as the wood burns it sometimes emit light of different color; red, pink, green against a black background of yellow. How could you explain this phenomenon?

More than likely the wood has picked up different phosphorescences from the salt water that when burned, will emit different colors.
