As to learning activity, reading, going to the library .. science experiments, computer programs that teach at their grade level and up.
I'm not really sure what you are looking for in this question .. so I thought I would throw a couple of things at ya and hope I found the answer your looking for.

It's good to find out what he's interested in first, and sports are a good thing, especially the martial arts.
