oh boy I could give you a whole range of ideas from my own experiences.... both as a parent of a person with a severe disability and as a person with a mental disability....
loads of ideas, thoughts and info that just might get you thinking along some interesting lines...

The Sociology of Health and medicine... I forgot the authors first name, but the last name is Weitz. We had to read this for my sociology class and it was awesome. It discussed a diversity of topics and sociological problems in the medical field. I saved it after college because it was such a fascinating book, I highly recommend it.
