You should be able to find a holostic remedy called "Silicea" tablets at a natural foods or Vitamins store. It strenghtens and improves the connective tissue's needed for healthy hair, skin and nails. It also works amazingly well. It is marketed as a anti-acne I think, but I have slow growing hair, and it and doubled the speed it grows out in. I also have to cut my fingers nails weekly, and they no longer splinter or "snag" stuff.
The directions say take four of the small tablets every hour, and when I have an issue with hair or skin, I double that, but let them dissolve under your tongue, for maximun effect.

I think its the same as with hair....EVERYBODY IS DIFFERENT> However, don't bite your nails, have enough calcium in your diet, clean, trim, file nails. Maybe use some nail polish from Sally Hansen (you can find this at any drugstore or Walmart) that will help in their growth.

Gelatin - Jello. Eat lots of it.
My mom used to tell me that and then you can also physically use gelatin on your nails - massage into nails and leave...
Lots of vitamin E and C.
