Black holes have powerful gravity. When matter passes by a black hole it can get sucked in. Especially if there is a star nearby to pull matter from. As that happens the matter starts to move very rapidly toward the black hole. As it gets close, it's moving so fast, it starts to emit radiation, radiation that is characteristic of matter falling into a black hole.
We see that special kind of radiation formed as matter falls into a black hole.

BLACK HOLES are theoretical objects. They are a theory to explain what we can observe. Although we are pretty certain they exist there is still an area of doubt. Most of what is said about them makes sense, however they still do not obey the laws of quantum mechanics, a stumbling block when trying to prove they really do exist. There are two problems, and here I have to say I have only a crude grasp of the principles involved.
1. Things cannot, "disappear", into a black hole, data cannot "disappear" from the universe. Whatever happens stuff does not disappear.
AND
2. The Time thing, time cannot stop, it is impossible, the apparent stopage of time inside a "Black" Hole does not happen.

Black Holes do not exist. No Probe or spacecraft has ever been near one and no person on planet Earth has ever seen one up close. It's the most ridiculous theory known and dumb sheeple actually believe what they have been told by scientists and astronomers that Black Holes exists when in fact they never seen one and all they are doing is verifying their own version of results and data and shoving it in our faces and making want us to believe in this fantasy called black holes.

Recently, Stephen Hawking had found out that black holes emit a type of radiation which is now named after him: Hawking radiation. So scientists now find black holes by searching for the radiation.
This is what Wikipedia says:
In physics, Hawking radiation is thermal radiation thought to be emitted by black holes due to quantum effects. It is named after British physicist Stephen Hawking who worked out the theoretical argument for its existence in 1974. Hawking's discovery became the first convincing insight into quantum gravity. However, the existence of Hawking radiation remains controversial. [1].

Black Hole: A celestial object that has a gravitational field so strong that light cannot escape it and that is believed to be created especially in the collapse of a very massive star.
