No, no, no I went to the movies to see it at 12. My older sister took me and it was too much for me to handle. We had to get up and leave.

I'm 12 and I watched The Exorcist. I also watched a lot of other scary movies like Candy Man, House of the Dead, It, Silent Hill, and The Hills Have Eyes. I didn't really get scared until it was really dark and I was alone but I soon got over it.

A friend of mine saw that film when she was about 12 (we're both 31 now) and she still has nightmares about it. In her nightmares she suffers rape and something or someone speaks to her in a threatining manner. Her boyfriend sees and feels her body jolt during the night and has to wake her up.

When I was 12, I saw a scary film called The Haunting, made in 1960, starring Clare Bloom. It scared the pants off me and stayed with me for some years after.

Due to the extreme nature of "The Exorcist", given the scenes with the priest and the girl are especially severe and scary, I'd advise strongly against it. Can cause nightmares, even in those who normally don't get them.

yes, if they feel that they are ready, then i actually encourage it. Whats the worst that could happen? they'd have nightmares. big deal. I think that if they get scared from the movie, then it's they're own fault and they basically ASKED for it. If you stop them, then they'll probably be really angry, and go see it at a friend's house who's parents let them see it, or worse, sneak in to an even worse movie in theaters. believe me, I'm 14, and that movie wasn't even scary, and i know some pretty rebellious 12 year olds who would do that. wouldn't you rather them see it with you, then them lying to you about it?

Depends on his/her maturity, general knowledge, background, and a host of other factors. Generally, I'd think it'd be better to watch it a little older... like 15 or so. There are some disturbing scenes that may shape young minds negatively.

No. I watched it when I was 10 and it is was far too traumatic for me. I've been having nightmares and an irrational fear of that movie ever sense.
