Do I set the password on the computer that has the router hooked to it, and how do I find out where to put the password? I looked everywhere to set the password but cannot find where or how. I am pretty computer savy but this baffles me because I can't find it.

You set the password on the page you pull up in your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc) that controls the router; for many manufacturers this is IP address 192.168.1.1, it will most likely be under the "security" settings. You will need to select WEP or WPA settings (WPA is more secure) and if WEP, choose a 128 bit encryption rather than 64 bit. Keep in mind that the moment you save it, you will loose your connection until you add the password in the settings on your computer that control the adapter that receives the signal from the router. It is also advisable to make your SSID invisible to others; that way it will be more difficult for your system to be found and hacked.

u haven't specified what router you have. In General All Routers will have a Graphical interface to make settings. This could be opened by the gateway address. Gateway Address will be printed on router. Else go to Start> Run> type CMD, click OK. In the black Command Window Type IPCONFIG. You will get Default Gateway starting most probably with 192.168.x.x
this will give graphical nterfact for router. check for Wireless Settings or Security.

well...it depends on the router...some routers have specific passwords already set...and in some routers u have to generate the password. Try to check it out in the wireless part of ur router configuration. The wirless password is otherwise known as WEP key or WPA key. In some routers u'll need to create ur own paraphrase which will in turn create the password.

Well...once u create the password and try to connect wirelessly...in the network connections(i.e Control panel>>network connection>>right click wireless connection>>>scan for available wireless network>>>select the appropriate wireless network>>>type in the WEP key and u'll be connection.)

yes, it is the same as tapping into their cable, or any other service, though you are unlikely to be caught gotta love the answer saying it's legal if the router isn't protected... yeah, like it's legal to use someone else's car if they didn't lock the doors, lol
