Either Cosmos, like everyone said, Or Blue Moons to Black Holes, by Melton Knocke. Firefly encyclopedia of Astronomy comes close though.

"Pale Blue Dot" by Carl Sagan

It's a masterpiece of common language used to explain complex astronomy and physics. A fun read!

The books by Carl S. are pretty good, but if you are looking for a really entertaining (as well as informative) read, try "Who's Afraid of Shrodinger's Cat?"

I didn't think much of "A Brief History of Time"....I'm not into Cliff's Notes. :D

a book called "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card but it is only about space, not so much on astronomy
