you would need to go and see your gp, they are commonly prescribed for hypertension/high blood pressure and work by stopping something being absorbed into the blood cells.
They can have a large range of side effects though. your gp may be able to suggest a more relative medication for your problem.
If you don't like going to the doctor, try writing down your symptoms and any questions you have before you go. I found it to be really helpful and the gp would rather you did this thatn leave having forgotten to ask something, or being unclear about your situation.
Good Luck and try not to worry.

Beta blockers are:

A class of drugs used to treat heart disease and high blood pressure. These drugs lower blood pressure and slow the heart rate. They were discovered accidentally to also be useful for preventing migraine headaches.

Beta blockers are a class of drugs that act by blocking certain receptors on smooth muscle (such as in the heart and lungs). The effect of blocking these receptors is to limit the uptake of substances such adrenaline. The overall effect is to slow the heart and reduce blood pressure. During times of stress the body increases its production of adrenaline giving rise to an increase in the heart rate and blood pressure.
These drugs are usually used to treat heart conditions and are normally only available on prescription - it would be dangerous to try and use them without medical supervision.
