The devil was preceded by High Priestess and the 6th placed card was The Emperor. Have a lovely day!

Please tell if each card is upright or inverted.

The sixth card is your next move. The Emperor is in this position. The inverted meaning indicates protecton and support in any venture (like a patron). The reversed meaning indicates that a forceful ruler has become a tyrant, or may indicate aspects of your own behaviour at present.

The High Priestess is, from what you've told me, the ninth card placed. This is hopes and fears. When this card is upright, it can show a personal desire for guidance and knowledge. In the reversed positon, the High Priestess warns against heeding bad advice. Take your time and choose confidants with care.

The Devil as the outcome, and the tenth card. Upright, it can mean that you will end up tied to a commitment that is enslaving you, but it is your perception of the situation that allows it to continue in a way that is unsatisfying. If planning is done carefully, you can be free with one jump. Reversed, TheDevil reveals a damaging imbalance of opposites, a clash between gratification and morality, or the head completely overruling the hyeart. Do not gtive in to temptaion, ignore gossip and avoid manipulative people.

Hope this helps

The answer to your question depends on the card's position in the spread. What are the positions (and explanation of the position) for The Devil, The High Priestess, and the Emperor?

Every position in Celtic Cross has a different meaning. There are several different types of Celtic Cross spreads too. There is no standard Celtic Cross spread. Each reader just uses their favorite version.

The following is my version of Celtic Cross:

1. The querant's situation
2. What is influencing the situation (aka the cross card)
3. Distant past (childhood &/or past lives)
4. Recent past
5. What may happen in the future (aka Best/Worst card)
6. What will happen in the future
7. The self (represents the querant)
8. How others see the situation (like family, friends, etc.)
9. Hopes &/or fears
10. The outcome

The Devil, for each person, represents his/her own particular character flaw or weakness. It is not good nor is it evil. It represents a distortion or caricature of a neutral quality. Devil situations are sometimes subtle and hard to detect but can frequently be recognized by their seductiveness and the easy and natural way that we slip into them. Intuitively we may know that we are making a mistake, particularly if you the Priestess card was preceeding as you said. The Priestess represents depth and mystery. She is in the position of your secret hopes and fears. The Priestess knows and desires depth for which you may be searching. There is an intuition which accompanies the Priestess and is the deeper part of yourself. The Emperor preceeding the Priestess may either represent you, another man in a position of power, or a lifestyle for which you work very hard. He represents the male principle of logic, system, order, and left-brain approach to life. He is in the position of relationships..If this card is you, you have a way that you are used to doing things and even though you search for deeper meaning in life, your set ways may hold you back. If you continue on this path, the Devil card is showing that your unwillingness to transform may keep you within the constraints which you yourself have constructed. The future is only a possible future if the path does not vary. The Devil can represent, in this scenario, a way to your own self-undoing by defeating the very goals and ideals that you have set forth for yourself. Old habits die hard, but change is necessary in order to achieve peace of mind. The easiest route can also be the most dangerous one. Think deeply or meditate before acting.

The card itself in its upright position has this meaning: Black magic, discontent, depression. Illness. Wrong use of force. Bondage to the material; sensations devorced from understanding.

The high priestess is usually a valuable card ofr artists, poets, composers and mystics. It also can represent the perfect woman that all men dream of.

The emperor: leadership, mental activity, domination. War-makingpower, authority, paternity.

Now n ot knowing what the subject of the reading was, or the otehr card and their positions, I can't really say just what all this comes to, but hopefully these meanings will give you some insight into the results.

There will be a lot of change in your life. The turmoil it will bring is helped by the High Priestess and the Emperor will offer assistance.

It depends on where it is in the spread. It doesnt always mean something bad. The card usually represents manipulation from someone leading you into making wrong choices. It can also mean your going to be or are in a "crossroad" in your life where the choice you make can be crucial.
If it has turned up after the 5th placed card in your spread then think carefully of the obstacle you are facing in your life and make the right choices to overcome them.

the simple answer is that the devil is your negative beliefs .... I read tarot cards and it has to be interpreted along with the other cards to make a cohesive storyline but you wont go wrong if you look at yourself in the mirror and see your negative beliefs creating problems for you .... also use other people as mirrors to see not what they say to you but what their actions say ... good luck

Has to be bad but I don't know that much about it. I just say always avoid the devil for obvious reasons unless you like very hot vacations.
