Being a lover of just about any type of music, I have to say that the music scene these days is quite pathetic. It's so bad that eras like the 80s are making huge comebacks because the new stuff just isn't good enough. The 50s had Elvis and doo-wop, the 60s had The Beatles, The 70s had The Bee Gees, the 80s had Duran Duran and U2, the 90s had Nirvana...but where is the signature for today's music? I'm afraid there isn't one.

Personally, I'm liking what I hear from bands like Fall Out Boy and especially Panic! At the Disco. PATD has a rather refreshing, fun sound. So many bands seem like cookie cutter bands of whatever is popular, but they do not. From the circusy sound to the added bits of electronica in some cases, they are an interesting band. Both FOB and PATD have frontmen with excellent singing voices, and they know how to sing with feeling instead of deadpanning the lyrics like many bands do.

As for hip hop, I never really cared for it. The subjects most of the rappers rap about are usually crude, uninteresting, or I can't relate to them. I wouldn't knock anyone for liking it, but it's not really something I enjoy listening to, personally.

for me,there is a big gap between the mainstream and the underground...for the mainstream,it's all about money and glamour.all the mainstream band and artist juz a big jerk.who the hell in this world wanna lives like them?of course they have plenty of money but they juz cheating to earn those money.their musics never have the right meanings.its all about loves, stuff like smoking pot, getting high then getting laid on a couch, wat the hell iz dat?

for me,music is an art.art is something that u like.art is how the way u expressed urself.all underground bands, they juz awesome....the wrote and publish their own songs.not like those hippy stupidy hop....they dont even know how to write.how come they can write a song?so,they hired a composer....they sucks....

try listen to some arch enemy, dimmu borgir, amon amarth, cradle of filth and many more.........u should know wut musics are...these are real musics...u can express ur feelings...

Rap and hip hop are tribal, primitive beats and music for tribal, primitive minds. Is it any wonder the people making them are the same people advocating the murder of police, the rape and mistreatment of women, and the use of illegal drugs?

They're popular, but that's not good; they're a bad force in the minds of the malleable young of North America and Europe. I have seen normal people my age turn into primates incapable of speaking correctly and with a penchant for unnecessary violence because of this stupid "music."

The music is treason against traditionalism and treason against everything for which my country (Norway) stands. As such, since treason is (or should be) a crime punishable by death, I would gladly see the same happen to the traitors to our way of life.

What I think (or you for that matter) doesn't matter. American popular music in its current form (the last 60 years or so) is driven only by whether it sells or not. Americans like to be told what to buy, no matter how ludicrous. I'll have another supersized poo sandwich in my SUV while I listen to hip-hop, thank you very much. I "need" that Hummer to go two blocks to the 7-11 to buy beer and cigarrettes, TV told me, and I believe everything I see on TV. It's my patriotic duty!

i completely agree very few mainstream is good today in part because "going platinum has nothing to do with luck it just means that a million people are stupid as ****" -immortal technique well pretty much not to be racist or anything but from what i've seen white people are the ones who buy the most music and they buy the worst like on yahoo answers you would see them pick the wackest rappers like lil wayne gucci mane or tyga as the best.. i dont mean to be racist but its a huge coincidence if it isn't true

I hate most of it. They sound like little kids trying to act grown up when really they're just immature and unhealthy. It's just not stimulating and is an insult to my intelligence.

they're all great... i mean in our school publication, people here are all mixed up when it comes to music.... i was used to listening to mellow jazz when my co-staff always open the speakers and fill the whole room with emo music... glad i was used to it... after 2 weeks of listening....
