The Big Bang theory allows for the possiblility of an infinite homogeneous and isotropic universe. This means a possibly infinite volume of space filled with galaxies of the sort and density astronomers see from here. It follows then, that as long as there is an arbitrarily small, but *finite* probability of something occuring within any finite volume, it must occur somewhere. That said, it should be pointed out that we could never expect to see the less likely ones (like all the air molecules in a room suddenly deciding to exit the door long enough for you to suffocate) since the *visible* universe is quite finite, due to the finite age of the universe, the fact that it is expanding, and the finite speed of light. Furthermore, many things, like a faster than light start fleet, may simply be impossible (zero probabity, regardless of universe size).

The universe is not infinite and definitely there is finite amount of matter and energy in it. Also there is no concept of infinite probability, probability of an event opccuring is a number between 0 and 1. And yes, if you wait long enough a monkey pushing the keys on a keyboard will eventually write Shakespeare's Hamlet with probability 1.

Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. NO. The universe follows simple laws that exclude most things from happening. Furthermore infinite things cannot happen everywhere. In fact it's more correct to say that only one thing can happen at any given precise location. Now you can say that, over the vastness of the universe, a vast number of things have probabilities of happening, but not everything and certainly not everything at any one given precise point.
The star was fleet? Better hit that "R" key harder next time.
The "star was fleet" as you put it, did happen. In a movie - or rather a series of movies. Oh, that brings up another point - in fiction you can break the universal laws but not in fact.

If the universe is infinite it could mean that everything that is physically possible has happened, is happening or will happen sooner or later sometime, somewhere.
The problem is that there are many theoretical models of the universe that could be infinite with all sorts of exotic properties, your ideas included.

The universe may be infinate but not nessisarily random. Its size would not be the only factor in determining the probability of something happening somwhere within it.
Just because you might have a million (or more) gallon glass of water it is no more or less probable that it will freeze in 70 degree temparatures... than an 8oz. glass of water.
