I have recently bought a Honda 2.2 Prelude Vtec and roughly estimate that I am getting 24 miles per Gall (UK) but I have had the air-con on for most of the time.
Have you any idea how much the air-con has cost me in fuel consumtion?

Example = £10 in fuel = 100 miles , Without aircon .......
Example = £10 in fuel = 85 miles , With the air con ........
I did a road test in my car and this was the outcome based on average driving and keeping the rev counter under 3000 rpm , on the motorway at 70 mph it used a little more fuel .

Driving with the widows open costs more than windows closed and A/C on. That IS a fact.
How about you reduce blower speed which will reduce compressor on time due to lower suction side pressure. That should save you a little.
Now, lets talk about how much wind resistance costs you. Did you know that wind resistance has an exponential increment effect with respect to speed.
At 60 mph and modern aerodynamics wind resistance is virtually neglegible.
But at 75 mph wind resistance can cost up to 8 mpg.
This was an experiment I did with my Huge Lincoln Town Car. I got 8 mpg more at 60 mph than at 75 mph.

Actually to all these people who say that the air con uses more feul it is a lie. The air condition uses no extra feul to power it, it is cooled down by stuff called freeon (sp) that gets cooled by your radiator.
If you freeon needs replacing then yes it does start to use some feul but not much. Have that checked out, it cost my father in law £45 to have it all renewed and the guy came out to his house. It was the man who replaced the freeon that set him straight about the feul consumption of the air conditioning in the car.

On my van it costs me about 1.5 miles per gallon. You will need to check the mileage again after driving it with the A/C on to know for certain.

A friend of mine who is a car salesman once told me that if a prospective customer asked him questions about fuel consumption and running costs then he couldn't afford the car.
