As well as being a teacher, I work for LifeTouch portrait studios. I get plenty of experience with unique names.
Here are some tips.
Spelling- use a normal spelling for the name you pick or if you make one up make sure you do it phoneticallly and test it out. I have a friend who named her baby Malece (which is ver similar to malace)
The nickname- make sure your name has a nickname that makes sense. My grandpa was named Versil and everyone called him Peter (not his middle name- that was Leroy). We are naming our first boy after him by using Peter (Gideon Peter).
Bible names are fun because they are old fashioned and under used but familiar (it is a little harder to find girls in the Bible that are nice).
Make the middle name very unique! The only time it will be heard is when the kids in trouble or on graduation day.
I hope this helps.
Here are some of my favorites
Jocelyn
Lillian
Malachi
Josiah

Try using older names. We used Cecillia because it is not a name you hear very often.
