They probably want you to think a lot about your mind and your ability to reason and be creative. Maybe something like a crochet sweater of gold, where the gold represents [something positive about you] and the holes in the sweater represent your ability to hold together while still allowing other things in, which conveys an ability to learn.

I would write something like the following:

"My shirt would be covered with questions such as 'Is this what higher education is really all about?' and 'I need to get myself into a real school."
