i am making a dance/performance thing for homecoming (it is called an airband at our school), and it is sort of latino ballroom. i don't know how to make them have that passion/feeling. i tell them to watch certain videos on youtube that i give them, i try to use analogies, i show them exactly how to do the move. it still doesnt help!

I think you have to bring it to them Live, I mean have a little party of something snd let them hear the music and get involved in the dancing. You must create an enviroment, in which they can interact with each other, (the music and the people). I think this should help, also intorducing them to such movies like Dance With Me, and even some of the Hip-Hop movies, ie, You Got Served, Save ther Last Dance, Honey, and Salasa. Sometimes. movies can make a great impact, and really push people to trying things they may have otherwise been closed mind about. Good Luck, or should I say "Break a Leg" showbiz talk for Good Luck.

If you can get into a workshop by Louis Van Amstel, or get one of his videos (I'm not sure he has any) this is what he teaches. Based on this premise, find a good pro who trains professional dancers. Go to his/her workshop and well, try to convey the knowledge.

One good exercise that I can try to pass on: find a passionate piece of music 4/4 counts. Tell your student to do nothing but expression (i.e make them strike a pose/line) on every strong beat or whenever they feel it is right. Make'en do it in the class. The music that I find inspirational and slow enough to do this exercise is the last track from this CD set (don't be thrown by the fact that it is Tango): http://danceshopper.com/ballroom-dance-music.The%20Ultimate%20Ballroom%20Album%207
If you have a machine that can slow it down it becomes pretty intence Rumba or Cha-cha

E pills always do the trick!
It might be expensive for an air bands audience though.
