This is a neat question, I think, because responses tend to reflect that person's thoughts and feelings on their own culture and heritage.
The favourite names for boys and girls I have are simple, basic names, such as "Catherine" or "David". The names that I hear that drive me batty are those artsy fartsy names that sound exotic but really aren't. The only other silliness I see are those people who insist on giving their children basic, common names to avoid having others laugh in their faces but who then spell them in the most bizarre and archaic manner. Most teachers don't have the time or inclination to ask about how one spells one's name and so these poor children wind up spending the rest of their lives correcting the spelling of their own names; as in, "No, sir, my name is only pronounced 'David' but it's spelled with seven 'f's and a couple of 'y's."
I know I'm somewhat off topic but I really think this is a super neat question!!

If I had a baby boy I would name him Aleister. If I had a baby girl I would name her Bettie.

Don't think of giving name to babies, but to fully grown adults which they shall soon enough be.
