Well, your mom is right. Breasts are just lumpy. The trick is to check them often enough that you know what are your normal lumps and what is something new or foreign. Breasts do get sore on a cycle, usually just before your period. If having a doctor check your breasts makes you feel harrassed, you may need to find a new doctor.

Lumpy breasts are normal. I had them, too. They are milk glands.
But here's a more serious issue. Why is your doctor makign you feel sexually harassed?? Is there a nurse in the room during the exam? If not, there should be. If the doctor is not harassing you, perhaps you are very self-conscious about your body. That is normal at your age.
But listen to your feelings. If the doctor is harassing you, then file a complaint. But don't do this lightly. You should be absolutely sure there is somethign improper going on. Ask your mother to stay in the exam room with you if you feel comfortable about that. Otherwise, ensure that the nurse is there.

Your breasts will hurt before your period. You may want to cut down on salt, because the pain is caused by water retention (and hormones). A couple of days into your period is a good time to check your breasts for lumps. Doctors recommend doing it in the shower. If you still have lumps that hurt, go to another practitioner, preferably a woman.

Let the doctor examine the problem, if it makes you feel better you could go to a female doctor.
While the lumps might not cause any potential harm, it doesn't hurt to be informed.
And if there was something wrong with you, your parents would be the first one to take you to the ER/doctor's office.

Honey, please tell your doctor. If I was your mother, I would demand a mamogram tomorrow. 16 is a little young for cancer but I think you should check it out. Don't feel tramatized, its ok. Try a woman doctor if it makes you feel better.

Darlin', I had the same problem when I was younger and freaked out and ran to my Dr. He told me they were just glands, everyone has them. They feel like giant lumps.
I understand the worry, and see your Dr. just to be safe. I know it feels like a violation of your privacy.. but we're women and it's just something we have to deal with. Find a woman Dr. if you aren't comfortable with a man.
