Because they have been dumbed down.
Their life styles have been intentionally arranged so that they don't have the time or facilities to think. Education methods are such that there is no real truth taught, and the ability to think is discouraged.
Everyone is encouraged to fill their time with sports heroes and pop stars, and given a bunch of lies called news, with stock exchange figures flashing across the screen and hypnotising people until they spend their lives less than half awake, without a second thought of how their freedoms are being reduced every day, and how their taxes are being pocketted by a few very rich folk.

A short time ago (about 230 years) a group of wingnuts (with names like Jefferson, Franklin, Hamilton) put together a system of administration that virtually did away with the need for bloody coups (the last such unpleasantless we had was in the mid-1800s and we're still getting over it). The thing about the Bush administration is that it is self-limited. He and his band will be out and the rest of us will be left to tidy up. As a patriotic American, I can only offer my humblest apologies for the mess that he and (probably moreover Cheney) have unleashed upon the world. Some of us Americans have very short memories (especially the Republcan variety-remember Dick Nixon?). In any case, beneath that appearance of passivity is a great mustering of forces trying to do what's best for the world as well (OK, stop laughing, we really are trying to set things right over here!)

What David W said, and because so much is farce and fallacy, its far easier to ignore and 'go with the flow' than swim against the current.

The 'farmer' said "The grass is green", so the sheep repeat "The grass is green", and continue to chew the cud.

Sweet bliss.

Thanks to your socialist system, Western Europe will all be third world nations in 20 years.
Perhaps you should worry about yourselves, and not us.
