I'm sure I read somewhere that one system works like a VHS tape and if you are not careful you can overwrite thereby losing date by accident. Is it true and which is which.

DVD Rewritable Disc this can be done, but on the others DVD+R or DVD-R you can record only the once.

No - I have one and I have to erase the disc, or parts of it, before re-recording.

+R & -R discs are write once only, to overwrite youwant +RW or -RW discs. Hope that helps.

you cant lose the data by accident, as you first have to remove the data before you rewrite to the disk.
You would have to be very stupid to lose the data by accident.
