Chicago to LA, if memory serves. I live a stone's throw off of it in MO.

I seen your question and it made me want to know, too. So I went to this web site and it tells turn by turn of the route through each state. Starting with Illinois all the way to California. I live very close to the start of Rt. 66 (Plainfield), so all of the cities that the road crosses through (in Illinois), were familiar. Check it out.
