Basketball Tryouts Tips

If you are not ready by now, it's too late for this season. If you do not make the team, work on your ballhandling.

Dribble a ball whever you walk and instead of walking do a light jog while dribbling, most of all don't look at the ball.

Work on your lateral quickness, do defensive drills on your own. Ask the coach if you can observe practice or at least do the fitness drills (run "suicides", do stretches, etc.) with the team. Learn the coach's strategies and philosiphies.

Find someone that is not involved with your school at all to teach you how to shoot a 15 foot jump shoot and do lay-ups proficiently. The 15 foot jump shot when taken at a 45 degree angle is one of the easiest shots to hit in basketball. Once you are hitting this shot proficiently, you will get a lot more lay up attempts. Get the connection?

Shoot 100 free throws a day. By next season you should be an 85% free throw shooter.

compete in the 200 meters for the track team this spring and do the triple jump too. Run cross country next fall. All these things will increase your endurance (cross country), quickness (200 meters), lateral quickness and jumping (triple jump).

Don't let any of your coaches know what your true athletic goals are. Simply tell them you like to compete in sports and you want to be the best at whatever you do.

Good luck making the team.

Positions are the 1(point guard) 2(shooting guard) 3(Small Forward) 4(Power Forward) 5(center). the 1 dribbles, passes, drives. the 2 shoots and passes. the 3 shoots and cuts. the 4 drives and cuts and sets picks, the 5 moves in a diamond in the key posting up for the ball. To control the ball, use your finger tips and just trust yourself. You should be able to use both your right and left hands equally or you should not be playing the 1 or the 2. If you play good defense, you have a much higher chance to make it. Make sure to drink a lot so you don't get dehydrated from all of the running you will be doing. Just try your hardest and don't get discouraged. Good Luck and tell me how it goes

First of all good luck.

Just be yourself, if you make a mistake win the ball back and hussle.
If someone has a go at you just tell yourself you're better than them and you want to prove it.
Don't make friends with anyone they're all competing for the same place as you.
When you walk into the hall don't be frightened don't be intimidated.
No matter how tall they are just play your basketball and most importantly be yourself but be a team player!!!

Good Luck mate

just show your basketball smarts.. show the coach you know the dynamics of the game. it's not all about shooting hoops, you should be able blend into a team. just show your real game and don't overdo your real game. show that you're a hardworker. be agresive on rebounds and loose balls, know when is the right time to make a good pass and a good shot.. i used to coach a high school team and during try out's I ussually look out for those kind of players.. GOOD LUCK BRO!

You should really check out Jacob Hiller's (worked with many NBA players and trained Olympian athletes) "The Jump Manual". It's an exclusive vertical jump training program designed specifically to help you jump higher. It’s a full coaching package that will teach you how to systematically increase your vertical explosion and will guide you through the course of action step by step to improving your vertical leap. Here is the link: http://www.jumpmanual.cf

I was able to add 12 inches to my vertical jump in one month and a half. That's pretty awesome in my book. Good luck!
