we've aways had one. a can of gas in the car porch, canned goods, candles, 10 gallons of drinking water, a generator bought last year after rita went through. flashlights that that you shake and they light up with no batteries, first aid kit, a plastic tarp and it's all in a large tupperware container sealed and dry. there's other stuff in there i'm sure that i can't think of but now and then we go through it and replenish it or freshen it up and such specially at the start of the hurricane season.

Got one.....In a LARGE tupperware sort of container.....enough canned food for about a week, batteries, rechargable lights, radio, candles, can opener, a flat of bottled water, dried fruit and nuts, and other dried goods...biscuit mix, etc....figure if we ration, with our family of four could make it about 2 weeks before leaving our "safe room"....We live in Arkansas....We also have a generator and some poultry....maybe we could make it a month before hitting the grocery store

My big problem is I don't know where to store all that water! I live in a small apartment.
