First of all, why do you need to consider a gun for protection? If your job is that dangerous, why are you working there?

Here is your best options. If you are serious on carrying a gun (protection provided by the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights), you need to take a course in gun safety and register for a conceal/carry permit from the state. Granted that you have no felonies, criminal records, or other circumstances prohibiting you from owning, possessing, or using a gun.

Second, you need to follow all state, county, and local laws concerning weapons. Failure to do so will result in criminal charges against you, regardless of whether you have the permit or not. Check with your employer on their policies for weapons on the premises.

Uh, most employers frown upon employees having guns at work.

You can call your local sheriffs office and ask if it is legal to carry a weapon in your vehicle for protection.

In colorado you are allowed to carry in your vehicle without a concealed carry permit whilst driving within the state. Denver law is the only exception to the State rule.

What do you need protection from?

Watch 'Bowling For Columbine' and see the staggering gun rates in America.

I'm Australian, and was shocked to see how many Americans own a gun. Here, I know no one who owns a gun. The only gun holders would be the police.

It's because the American laws allow you the right to bear arms, but in Australia, we require gun licences.

That's why people here don't die everyday from gunshots.

Guns could be carried if allowed by the government wherein the carrier has a license or permit to carry a firearm.

While not illegal to carry guns to most workplaces in the US (unless defined federally so in specific locations such as schools, libraries, etc. or if it is simply illegal to possess a gun in certain states or cities), it is usually frowned upon.

See the case of a ConocoWilliams employee who was caught storing a gun in his trunk: he was fired and the NRA had a fit.

If California has a concealed carry law and you get a permit, maybe. It depends on your employer. They have the right to ban firearms on their property and most of them do.

Carry a gun for protection ? Sounds like you should find another job.

Never use the word "can". "may" is correct.

It depends on your work place's policies. It doesn't matter how twisted modern American interpretations of your constitution becomes, if your work place says no guns, you are to abide by it (given that your contract includes you must follow the rules set down by the company/work place).
