There is a great demand for "knock offs" by people with limited funds. They want to look stylish while not spending a lot of money. Businessmen see the demand and profit potential, so they market fakes. I believe this is very openly seen in the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries because of government corruption and an indifference towards trademark infringement.

because it makes cheap products sell for expensive prices, brand names sells,
stick a twenty cent crocodile onto a 1 dollar tee-shirt and you can sell it as a lacosse for 30 dollars,
