It's not unusual for this to happen to college teams... they lose their best players to graduation. In Texas' case, they lost their Rose Bowl MVP QB Vince Young to the NFL.

When you win the NCAA Championship, you're ranked # 1 at the END of the year when you won it all... but the next year is a new season... USC finished # 2 last year after Texas beat them in the Rose Bowl, but since they lost QB Matt Leinert and RB Reggie Bush, they dropped quite a bit in the pre-season polls.

It happens all the time.

Things happened between January and August. New players in, old players out. But in addition to that, you have to factor in other teams gains and losses, because if Texas lets say on a ranking was 9 out of 10 in January in roster strength, now they are 8 out of 10. That's still exceptional. But Ohio State moved up from a 7 out of 10 to a 9 out of 10. Ohio is number one, ranking wise, while Texas is number two.

i think of LSU considering they are in certainly one of these stressful convention. do no longer provide me incorrect the percent10 is noticeably sturdy yet Arizona States QB having some issues would have made it a different interest if he substitute into finished capability. i do no longer underestimate Oregon yet an outstanding variety of Alabamas play substitute into merely pulling off some huge, loopy performs. I do think of LSU's penalities substitute into nuts yet overcoming that exhibits their capability. I choose Oregon as a team yet i think of balloting will prepare #2 LSU even however Oregon substitute into the only appropriate 10 team with a win over a extra physically powerful ranked team. Does Oklahoma get any love this week or and undefeated Kansas team?

Because the polls knew OSU was going to school Texas in football.

If the officials hadn't given them a free first down penalty to the 2 yard line they woulda been SKUNKED! Announcers showed it on replay over and over, Texas got a gimme.

Final score 24-7. Go Bucks!

because they lost Vince Young over the offseason. Ohio State lost all its defense too but coaches all seemed to agree that even the new, young players on our defense can make big plays and that our defense will be almost as good as last year.

so the main reason for texas being #2 in the preseason polls is because of them losing Vince Young.

Ohio State is #1 because coaches believed that our new defense can be just as good.

They werent ranked #2 to start! Notre Dame was...
and they weren't ranked #1 because they lost their leader(V. Young) to the NFL.
But, it's a moot question anyway, because OSU STOMPED 'EM A NEW A.S.S.HOLE!
