CT scans can detect abnormalities deep into body tissues that x-rays are just unable to detect. The CT is also safer for you than bombarding your body with x-ray radiation.

They are able to see certain things through a high powered x-ray.

For example, I know someone who had some problems with internal organs and the doctor wanted to see if a tumor would show up. They rean the CTScan and could see the organs. Luckily, there were no tumors.

I don't care much for them, I feel it's a great deal of radiation involved. But, if this is the last resort, and many times it is not, doctors/hospitals make money off of it because it is an expensive test (can run $1,000-2,000+).

They are able to see inside bones or tissues so that a map can be built by the computer. This was not really available before CT. The best that was available was a tomographic plate and it was hard to get it set for the correct depth.

CT scans are an effective means of imaging what's inside your body and seeing what might be wrong. They do use radiation so they aren't something to be used frequently, but only when something is really needing to be checked out.

many many many,,,importance's..... to many to list here.

but ill give ya one,,,,, any given "speck" in lung tissues,,, may be just normal dirt,,,, but maybe not,,,, the CT scan will record every little speck,,,,and when you come back for another scan,,,, those specks are referenced from the first scan, and seen if they are growing, moving, etc.....
name one other machine that can do this...... and this is just a drop in the bucket,,,,, it can see everything in bone, muscle, tissue, veins, etc. .... quite important, wouldn't you say?
