No, because hurricanes only form in the warm, tropical waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The waters around New York are too cold to support a hurricane. It would probably get as far as North Carolina before disentegrating.
Hope that helps.

Check out the hurricane that hit Rhode Island in I think 1938. It was devastating and very unexpected. The idea was that hurricanes didn't get that far north. If it can hit Rhode Island then it can hit NYC.

Yes, hurricanes have and can strike New York. The last big one was in 1938. See the website below.

and not just hurricanes, we have nor'easters. like the one that hit in december 11, 1992 that caused the east river to swell up 20 feet (no thanks to a full moon), and flood the lower east side, the entire nyc subway system, nj path subway system, tunnels, parts of brooklyn, etc. it took 10 days to drain the subway, and bring everything back up.

and not just hurricanes and nor'easters. just regular rain.
in august 16, 1999, a freak 2 hour storm dumped 4 inches on the city flooding the subway and cripping the city.

Sure, but usually Hurricanes stay more to the south.

Sure it can, and has. Over a thousand died in one in the 50's. Also a large part of N.Y. city is below sealevel. If the flood control structures were to fail there would be devastating flooding.
