Is an offwhite suit (paired with burgundy blouse) permissible for wearing to a job fair? The career field is engineering. Generally the men wear black suits and cool colored shirts, and the women wear dark slacks, collared blouses, and no suit jacket. Does the fact that it's after Labor Day affect the issue at all?

You're into engineering and asking something like this???

Just dress "professionally".

It's much more about the career than the fashion!

If you've got skills, no one will care what you wore.
If not, I'd suggest a simple black thong!

Labor Day doesn't make a difference any more. That's "old school". The suit your'e describing sounds nice. Years ago, I was told by the Unemployment Office to dress as if you were starting the job the day of your interview. Good Luck, I know looking for a job is a job in itself...

Every job fair i went to in college people were wearing suits, and those were the ones that tended to do the best. Well best in regards to bags of goodies and call backs. Of course this was a few years ago in a better economy, so i would expect the bags of goodies. I would wear a suit. The pink shirt will be fine, but with a suit.

I would hire someone who cares more about being professional than someone who is worried about being in fashion.

Dress for the part, make them think that you are almost too good for the job. Make them feel as if you should be applying for their boss's position.

If you look stunning in that white suit and you know it, by all means, wear it! Remember that you are there to make an impression. Not only with your knowledge, but with your professionalism and good taste.

I wish you the best of luck.

white is a color you would want to wear to someone like donald trump, or maybe a hotel chain, to give the employer the impression that you like things immaculately clean and plan to not get a speck of dirt on yourself.

is engineering the right field for this... or does the job require that you may get a little dirty?

i think you should dress as they do.

Good question. I like the fact you want to dress to kill, but yes, I think you should not wear white after Labor Day. That's your "fashion" freaks talking there, not me.

off white doesn't fall under the labor day thing...sounds like a great outfit to wear to me. Wear conservative shoes with your suit and you'll look great.

Call the fashion police, violation here.Sorry dear but you really should wear dark slacks, or dark skirt.

the recruiters are there just to collect resumes, not to give you jobs. they don't care what you wear as long as you look halfway presentable.
