The research that I read about for my nutrition class said that it increases your taste and cravings for sugar by giving you the sweet taste. It is what you eat to satisfy the cravings that can make you fat. The other thing is that a lot of people eat fast food and a diet drink thinking the drink will help compensate for the meal. No...you have to eat well too. Caffeine makes you hold water weight as well.

Moderation is the key, really -- diet drinks do tend to have less sodium, sugars, and fat in them, but they are also showcased because of their amount of calories which are on the low end of the junk food spectrum -- however, if you drink enough of them your calorie intake can be identical to that of a regular soda or juice, so the dietary benefits of it cancels it out. Drinking a combination of carbon drinks with Splenda can make you feel bloated, which causes the illusion of fatness. My advice, though, is to steer away from any of soda or corn syrup-laced juices and to go au natural -- 100% fruit drinks have a nourishing value while still tasting sweet.

Diet sodas are alright.. but arent as healthy as water or unsweet tea.
Juice is not all that great because of sugar. When picking out a diet drink the best thing to look for are sugar, calories and sodium...
Water and unsweet tea is the way to go.

Diet drinks have a lot of calories in them because they are a total meal...they can only make you fat if you drink one and then eat a meal, only substitue meals with the drinks...hopefully that helps

If you drink too many of them in a day, mix in a bottle of water every other soft drink.
If you're still getting the french fries, doesn't matter what drink you have with your meal. Fries are the worst thing you can eat.

some diet drinks have enough calories for an entire meal, but they don't fill you up, so you tend to eat plus drink the diet drink, so that could make you gain weight

I am not for sure, but don't some of them come loaded with salt, and doesn't salt make you retain water? Water gain usually isn't much, but I think you can gain weight on them, especially if you drink too many a day.

No...let's think about it...3500 calories = 1 pound. Diet drinks = 0 calories. How many diet drinks to gain a pound.

not in themselves, but i've read where after drinking them the artificial sweetners stimulate the brain and trigger the crave for "real" sweets.......there is also a high sodium count in some diet sodas that increase water retention and bloating

i don't know if they exactly make you fat..
but i know they don't really help you loose weight either.
i personally think they taste disgusting.
it's still soda, and most of them use splenda and some other artificial things that aren't good for you.
