I have some moderate stains and discoloration in the kitchen. These kitchen stains and discoloration are caused by paint fading and regular wear and tear. The bathroom has some minor cracks, that I want to fill in and some of the paint is peeling. Please note the bathroom never got a coat of primer paint. I want to use a primer that is quick to dry and where can recoat in about an hour. Also I need to have the primer that is easy to clean up ideally with soap and water. The paint I would be using would be latex. Any brand primer and specific name would be appreciated.

Kiltz is the brand that Home Depot and Lowe's both sell. It comes it oil based and latex based. Make sure you scrape all the peeling paint first. You can use the oil based kiltz under latex paint, but I would personally use oil paint in the bathroom. I think it does usually dry in an hour. If the stains are bad enough, you may need 2 coats of primer. If you use the oil based primer, get a cheap brush and roller and throw them away instead of cleaning them. And make sure the area is well ventilated, use a box fan to get air into the bathroom and one facing out to blow air outward from the bathroom if you have a large enough window.
