The space shuttle orbits the earth about once every 90 minutes, so it orbits the earth about 16 times every day. You get the same answer for any spacecraft in what we call Low Earth Orbit just outside the earth's atmosphere.

About 16. It depends on how high the orbit is. For example the satalite you get HBO on is at 29000 miles and orbits once every 24 hrs. Meaning that it stays over the U.S. all the time. The orbiter being closer will orbit faster.
