here's a question i've always had, when someone says "i'm sorry" in response to the death of someone close to you or bad news, what's an appropriate response? "thank you" seems weird, as does "me too." what are you suppose to say?

say : "Don't be, you can join me in thrusting my head into his a r s e and joining him in his coffin/pyre."
trust me it works

OR

"Don't be. You're next."

Saying "thank you" would be the appropriate response.

In my case, if I knew the person, I would have hugged them and shed tears. Otherwise a sincere "Thank you" is correct.
This is so hard, I was in deep depression and words were not always getting through.

If someone says this they are being polite and considerate, a simple thank you is best.

If you don't want to say anything, you can just nod or give a little smile.

It is always nice to reply back with a simple, "Thank you, I apprieciate your good thoughts."
