Let me just propose this. When I was in school, my Astrophysics teacher (god knows why I took this class bc it was freakin' hard) presented a formula that a famous theorist had written that proved there was life on other planets. We could pick the minimum yet the formula always proved that there had to be. With all that space & all those infinite situations, earth is not the only perfect planet for life. He explained that "perfect" was relative (as everything is in physics) and that our definition of life wasn't necessarily the only definition of life. Life could be out there but the book of laws could be completely different because we only know WHAT we know. A rock could have a soul. The wind, a spirit. Fire could represent the wrath of the gods & water could be the left over tears of a broken heart. This is poetic but chemically sound. The last thing my teacher said was that earth was just a big rock floating around in space & we were just growing on it. What do you think?

We exist and have been visiting you planet for a long time. Over the centuries, your planet was a curious place to visit once or twice and was not considered very interesting . Sure, your wars showed us how undeveloped you are as a species and your infantile,(in cosmic terms) dependence on god concepts does not bode well for you. We are now showing an interest in you because it is not often that we get to observe a species commit suicide. You are so close to maturing as a sentient species and it will be a shame to see you kill yourselves. There are just not enough of you becoming rational enough to force the issue. You let the least among you determine your fate, so be it.

You are referring to the Drake equation I take it. Yep, no matter how much you trim the numbers you still get the answer there is life out there. Also, why does everyone always seem to want to define life as something similar to what we have here?
One picture that always makes me stop and think is the Hubble Deep Field image. It is a picture taken by the HST of a patch of sky that would be obscured by a dime held at arm's length--i.e. not very much. It is an image of a "dark" patch of sky, or one that seems empty. After exposure over a period of time, the final image shows a huge amount of galaxies, not individual stars. All those galaxies in that little patch of sky, now extrapolate that to how many are out there in the whole sky. How many planets, how many chances for some living thing to be on one of those planets. Nope, we can't be alone.

Like the line from the book (and movie) Contact: It just seems it would be a waste of space [if there wasn't something else out there].

Ahh, the Drake Equation! That's a fun one. It doesn't actually prove there could be life, though. It calculates the probability of there being another intelligent civilization other there we can communicate with, but for the calculation to be correct we have to accurately know all the factors that go into the equation, which we don't really know all that well. Still, it's fun to play with - you can search for it on line and find sites where you can input numbers and it will do the calculation for you.

That said, I think there probably is life somewhere out there, and it's just a matter of time before we find them or they find us (I don't think they've been here yet!). Life in the universe is a really neat subject - I teach college astronomy, and I always make sure to leave time to talk about it at the end of the semester.

In my opinion life is abundent in the universe . Mars has liqued water, and so do several moons orbiting Jupiter and Saturn . This proves that liqued H2o is not a rare substance on planets or moons .H2o is for most scientits and biologists is the only requirment for life to develop. Life on this planet flourishes even in the most harsh enviroments . We have found life in sculding hot methane vents on the bottom of the ocean floor! This proves that life could evolve on another pIanet even if it did not have land or much of an atmosphere. personally believe highly evolved intelligent life in the universe is extremly rare . Maybe 1-2 civilizations/galaxy but even then there would be 100's of billions of highly evolved civilizations in the universe .

Some people might ask why have we not seen/heard any communication in programs such as SETI . This one is easy for me because I am a firm believer that we are still an extremely primative species . Radio communication on even a galactic scale is about as effective as trying to use smoke signals between continents . Someday we will learn to use Faster then Light communications . Already there is proof that we can send signals faster then light . If we survive our own nature and not destroy our selves someday maybe even just a few hundred years from now we will develop new sources of energy and communications and transportation and we will find the truth to your question but as of now its all best educated guess and speculation .

"I have an I.Q. of 119 (basic intelligence is 100, so i'm above basic) and that i'm an youthful Earth Creationist." and that is the position i finished studying. If something of it really is as a lot BS because the first sentence, then that's no longer nicely worth dropping my time studying. actual, every person with an IQ that outstrips their shoe length would understand right this moment that YEC is organic fantasy. powerful attempt youngster even if the in worry-free words human beings you're fooling, are different fools like your self. Edit, now that i have surely examine your put up and cringed at your abysmal grammar, i understand for an undeniable undeniable reality that your IQ is lots below 119. get rid of the first a million and we will be seeing a miles more beneficial honest variety.

Have you ever even wondered what life means?? Does it essentially need to have a protoplasm?? Have you ever wondered why some particles behave in a certain way? I think it would be wrong to say that life essentially is what we define it to be. Maybe they communicate through say, rays which are yet to be discovered or they might exist in some other dimension?? who knows your ceiling fan might be living or simply the elctricity that passes through the wires or the stones or dark matter present on mars. Life may be present in the form of dark matter... Untill virus were discovered that a living thing must have a cellular structure.. My point is that there should be furthur research on what life is!!

The formula you sited is the famous Drake Equation. Yes, I do believe there is other life on other planets. I have been donating a lot of computer time to the SETI@home project in hopes that one day other intelligent life is found in our vast universe. We, the human race, have really yet to know what vast diversity of life is out there in our galaxy and the rest of the universe.

Even farther down that train of thought we are just a mess of energy that is 90% space travelling throught other space and energy comingling and interacing with other planets, universes, galaxies and dimensions.
